In 2013, the Glencoe Folk Museum was successful in obtaining grant money from The Pilgrim Trust, Heritage Lottery Fund and Museums Galleries Scotland for the re-thatching of the Museums original heather roof. The Museum is partially funded by Highland Council.
The re-thatching of the roof was completed in early January, 2014. The photographs below show various stages of the project and some of the fun heather and thatch activities we have held since then.
Come and visit us and have a look!
This photograph shows one of the Museum outhouses in its current state.
We would like to have both of the outhouses thatched to the same standard as the main building to protect our collections and preserve the building's heritage.
Donations are welcome.
